In the midst of normal Sunday life at home, I have been watching the responses to the news of Microsoft Brazil's legal posturing towards the Brazilian government's IT advisor, Sérgio Amadeu.
There's now a petition you can sign in his support (see the Brazilian Software Livre website for more languages), which already has a stunning number of signatures.
Robert Scoble of Microsoft has lent his support, as in fact has Fernando of Microsoft Brazil.
In my comments, Pedro Rezende points to the chronology he is maintaining (in Portuguese, anyone care to offer us poor monolinguals a decent translation? For now, here's the Babelfish translation).
Other voices like Sun's Richard Giles in Australia and Danese Cooper in California (samples - there are many more) are speaking up.
I called for mass action - looks like it's happening.

Do you really agree that Microsoft is "trying to deter righteous projects of social and technological uplifting of a developing nation"?

As it happens, yes I did read it, and I made allowances both for Marcello Branco's rhetorical style and for the fact the translation was performed by a volunteer.
