WIPO: Latin America Says No
Being in Brazil makes my sensitivity to Latin America news stronger. The article in Boing Boing about Cory's visit to WIPO was very striking. See how Brazil, Ecuador and India are pitted against the USA in the discussion of new WIPO policies that would create new, sweeping rights to limit free speech and privacy in the electronic domain. What makes it even worse is the rumours I hear as I travel that some trade delegations make WIPO acceptance a condition of completion of trade agreements. Imagine, "we will feed your people, all you have to do is agree to this small WIPO policy on copyright/patents/bandwidth/video marking/etc". Did you know your representatives were doing this in your name? Does the behaviour of the strong upset you as much as it does me?

Of course it does! It's for that reason and many others that I choose PT (Partido do Trabalhadores = workers political party) to be my representation.
This is an abuse, they want to keep we poor and ignorant, but that situation is changing as you could see in FISL 2004.

I had no doubts that citizens of Latin America would think that way - my question was addressed more to the citizens of the countries supporting the further removal of rights...
