French Open Source Deployments
Attending the OpenOffice.org conference in Berlin today, where I just delivered the opening address. I am now listening to representatives of the French government talking about the widespread use of OpenOffice.org in various government departments. I hadn't realised how widespread OpenOffice.org was in the French government, but they have tens of thousands of users and are finding it a migration no harder than moving to the current MS Office in user terms and much easier in administration terms (in particular there are no licenses to manage and police). The Customs service, the Gendarmerie, the Ministry of Justice and several more have widespread deployments.
