Doncha just love the press?
Computerworld Australia filed a fascinating story today (also in LinuxWorld Australia) that says a lot about journalistic presuppositions and very little about what I actually think or say when I give public lectures.

If only the journalist in question had come to the lecture instead of just citing the quotation from his invitation (the story seems to have been filed before I started speaking and when I asked if there were journalists present no-one identified themselves, so it's a fair guess these stones have been thrown from safe isolation) he would have found out that 'luddite' here was being used in the context of a historical discussion about means of production. It was illustrating the reaction of craft guilds to the industrial revolution and had nothing to do with Microsoft who were mentioned neither in the document he cited nor in the lecture (at least not in that connection). He would also have discovered that I wasn't talking about Linux, or about TCO.

I would have loved to see a story that actually resulted from an interview with me or from listening to what I had to say, but it must have been a slow news day where a fabricated story looked a better bet.
