Technorati Profile

Playground kids
I don't think I want to get into a trans-Commonwealth "my Mum's better than your Mom" battle with Tim Bray and his Mom but we finally solved the PC-Win98 spyware and virus hell we were in by giving my Mum an iBook running, among other things, NeoOffice/J, and she seems to be getting on just fine. Unlike Steve's new standards-hostile wordprocessor, NeoOffice/J provides high function, high compatibility document processing (even supports Wordperfect format now) but since the guys added proper Aqua menus it's had the same ease-of-use profile as the rest of the Mac. Mum's contentedly writing to her US friends every week.

I think NeoOffice/J will be a huge part of the success of the Mac Mini and I just hope Steve's people wake up to it soon enough to actually help by supporting the OpenDocument standard like the rest of us.
