By their nature, keynote addresses are 'of the moment' and thus the keynote actually delivered will differ from these descriptions, sometimes substantially. The Open Source Advantage: Accelerating Web Services Tool Evolution
As the Web Services software methodology takes hold across the computer industry, questions remain of how to ensure the best technologies are deployed soonest. Bill Joy of Sun once commented that every technology company must learn that not all the smart people work for you. By initiating, supporting and participating in open source development communities, Sun Microsystems has been able to develop the SunONE Studio development tool in record time. Does this experience signal the approach needed for Web services evolution? This keynote explores the lessons we can learn from the amazingly fast development cycle of NetBeans and SunONE studio.

Connected Yet Seperate: The Unstoppable Move to Loosely-Coupled Technologies
Abstract
The last decade has seen wave after wave of new ideas: Java technology, XML, Linux, Web services, peer-to-peer, grid. What do they have in common? Using real-world examples from Sun's software history, this session explores the continuing trend to loosely-coupled systems, and the role of open source as a development methodology in building the future.
I present from my own laptop computer, an Apple Powerbookm G4, at a resolution of 1024x768 or similar, and will need a suitable video projector. I usually use my own wireless controller and the laptop connection does not need to be on stage if this is impossible to arrange. I need a wireless lapel microphone as I walk around during my presentation. My slides are in OpenOffice.org format (download an open source version from openoffice.org) and I can supply them for proceedings either in this or Adobe Acrobat PDF format.
