My views were featured by Asia Computer Weekly concerning open source. The article is clearly a summary from notes and I'm not sure all the points have emerged exactly the way we discussed them - for example, I said "BSD", not "UNIX", and the open source quote is a misquote that creates the opposite impression to what I actually said. The panel I moderated for Java Pro earlier in the year finally apperas in November's magazine (the audio transcript went up in March).

My comments at Linux on Wall Street have been used out of context to support a view published by InternetNews.Com in an article about Sun's linux strategy. While I did say Sun was making a bold move with Linux, the rest of the sentence in which the phrase appeared explained it was in connection with out desktop strategy, MadHatter. I did not make the vague, general comment the article implies. And I most certainly did not say Sun would make any announcement in May about blade servers - I in fact told the audience we were exhibiting our multi-architecture blade server at the show. But clearly my comments did not convey the message the journalist had decided in advance to write about and so needed enhancing. (April 11, 2003)

InformationWeek (October 30, 2000): Microsoft's software monopoly - it was a shame that the comments attributed to me didn't reflect the real sense of the conversation - that Java's openness is demonstrated by the fierce competition and wide choice in development tools and components.
