Soundtrack

I listen to a ton of music; here are the Soundtrack selections that have flowed off my home page. A nifty gadget also uploads my playlist when I'm online, see below.

Les Nubians Princesses Nubiennes French duo with attitude and rhythm. I especially like 'Makeda', the song is about the Queen of Sheba. US|UK
Delerium Poem All sorts of Delerium tracks fascinate and move me; this is their latest album. The music has a dark complexity, and the lyrics here are especially poetic - try especially Innocente, written and performed by Leigh Nash of Sixpence None The Richer. US|UK
Lamb Lamb Quirky, danceable, I like it - try the tracks on their web site. Pretty hard to categorise; some of the tracks are long and wierd, but I find it captivating. US|UK
Olive Trickle Pleasant and slightly quirky, the haunting vocals and surprisingly deep lyrics combine to make an album I keep listening to. US|UK
Don McLean Don McLean Just in case all the trip-hop and other new stuff on my list scares you, rest assured that this is my favourite album of all time. I bought this album on vinyl many years ago on my first trip to the USA (aged 17) on a whim. It proved to be one of my most prized possessions, and when it got scratched in the late 80s I was so sad. Finding it again on CD (on a British label?) was like finding a lost brother.
All the tracks have been the sound-track to parts of my life - the sense of being caught up by events in 'Dreidel', of the value of work in 'Bronco Bill', of how any romance can fail in 'Oh My', the hope of new love in 'If We Try' ... and so on. I return again and again to the music and lyrics here and regard this as Don McLean at his very best, capturing the essence of real life with lyrical and musical excellence.

Vertical Horizon Everything You Want My favourite entry in the 'best new traditional rock band" Vertical Horizon have great and catchy songs of loss and love and happiness to share. US|UK
Dido No Angel As if you really need me to tell you about Dido. Plaintive, edgy vocals, deep songs touching on the bittersweet of life and relationships, all from a musical heritage embracing the band Faithless and the talents of her brother Rollo. The sound of 2001, as far as I am concerned. US|UK
Norah Jones Come Away with Me And without a doubt, Norah Jones was my Sound of 2002. Immensely talented, relaxed, self-assured, her smokey voice delivers the smooth and satisfying jazz sound that apparently everyone wanted to buy and she stayed at the top of the album charts in both the US and UK for half the year. One of the few albums I would unreservedly recommend to anyone. US|UK
Supreme Beings of Leisure Supreme Beings of Leisure Their debut album delivers funky retro-modern jazz-pop that I find 'delicious'. Not so wild about their new album but maybe it will grow on me. US|UK
